Applied mechanics

Applied mechanics is a core area for all engineering streams. The first part of the Applied Mechanics course offers methods related to systematic modeling and solving static problems. On the basis of the axioms of the mechanics of rigid bodies the following points will be treated: the equivalence and the equilibrium of the force systems, the calculation of the center of gravity, the internal forces and moments in beams and lattices as well as the friction problems. An introduction to elastostatic and material resistance offers concepts on constraints and distortions. It also deals with Hooke's law which is then applied to the problems of traction / compression, torsion and bending.
